Helpful Tip:

If you're using this fall craft for a classroom, or party you can have an adult cut out all the pieces ahead of time, and have them ready for the children to assemble.

How to make it

  1. (Basket Instructions, Step 1-10)

Cut one strip of brown cardstock 12 x 1 1/2 inches, this will be the basket's side.

  2. step 2

Cut vertical slits about 1 inch tall, and 1 inch apart all the way across the long edge of the basket side.

  3. step 3

Cut a circle, about 3 1/4 inch diameter, using a template, or by tracing around the mouth of a cup or bowl.

  4. Cut one more strip from the same cardstock as the basket measuring 12 x 1/8 inches.

  5. Cut two 12 x 1/8 inch strips from the other shade of brown cardstock.

  6. step 6

Wrap the side around to make a circle, overlapping the edges enough so it fits on the circle base. Use double sided tape or glue to hold the seam together where it overlaps. Use a paper clip or two to hold everything in place until the glue dries.

  7. step 7

Wrap the side around to make a circle, overlapping the edges enough so it fits on the circle base. Use double sided tape or glue to hold the seam together where it overlaps. Use a paper clip or two to hold everything in place until the glue dries.

  8. Cut about 6 pieces of brown cardstock, 1/4 x 1 inch. Use these small pieces to attach the circle base to the basket.

  9. Fold the 1/4 x 1 inch strips in half, and put glue or double sided tape on one side. Place the strips about an inch apart around the inside of the basket, with half of each strip on the side, and half on the bottom of the basket to hold everything in place.

  10. You can also add a handle to your basket with a piece of raffia, string, or another strip of card stock.

  11. Instructions for the pumpkins (Steps 11-15)

Cut 2 pieces of orange card stock, about 3/8 x 12 inches. Then cut those two pieces in half, so you have 4 pieces that measure about 3/8 x 6 inches.

  12. step 12

Fold one piece around so it overlaps to make a loop, then glue the two ends in place to make a circle.

  13. step 13

Do the same for the next piece; place the second strip perpendicular to the first one. Glue or tape one end of the strip directly over the place where you glued the first piece, then wrap it around to make another circle, and glue it in place.

  14. Do the same with the other two strips, but use them to fill in the corners of the pumpkin, until you have strips all the way around to form the ball of the pumpkin.

  15. Cut a green strip of card stock, about 2 x 3/8 inches. Fold the green strip over, then fold back the ends, and glue it to the top of the pumpkin for a stem.
