For Father's Day I always try to give my husband something that the kids make as one of his presents. He loves it and the kids enjoy making crafts for him. An added bonus is when the gift is useful and can be displayed easily. This picture frame is very simple to create: let the kids pick the colors to use -- they will love to paint the sticks and the little ornaments. They can help glue it all together too.
My kids were really excited for any little decision they could make about colors. I suggested only 2 colors for the frame; that way it keeps a somewhat stylish look. After it's painted and glued together, the kids can keep adding more ornaments. Dad can keep a nice drawing or a picture of each of the kids on display!
Sumerge one popsicle stick in water for 3 to 4 hours.
Take the stick out and bend it in a curve. Hold it for a while until it dries.
If it takes too long to dry, try taping it inside a jar and leaving it there for a while.
Pick one color and paint 2 sticks on the front, sides and back. Then paint 2 other sticks with another color.
If the ornament you picked needs paint, go ahead and paint it with a new color.
Glue the 4 sticks together in a square. Then glue the ornament on top of the sticks (whichever postion you prefer).
Cut a piece of cardboard the size of the drawing or picture and tape it to the back of the frame. Leave space on the top stick.
Glue the curved stick to the back of the top stick of the picture frame.
Now stand the picture frame up! It is ready for Dad's desk or night stand!
