Is there anything more luxurious than a warm, relaxing bath?  Yes!  A relaxing bath (or shower) with these Vanilla Sugar Bath Salts.

You can use them as a moisturizing, exfoliating scrub, and the scent is simply delicious!

Plus, it makes wonderful DIY gifts -- perfect for Mother's Day -- or for baby or bridal "showers!"

What you'll need

  • 3 cups White Sugar
  • 1 cup Grapeseed (or other unscented) Oil
  • 8 drops of Vanilla Essential Oil
  • Optional: 1 drop liquid Food Coloring
  • Mason jar(s)
  • Ring and Lid for your jar(s)
  • Optional decorations: Printable gift tag, Small scoop, Colored Twine, etc.

You can make this with whatever scent you like. For example, to the vanilla, you could add some cinnamon and almond, to create an "oatmeal cookie" scent. You could also mix in a sweet-smelling herb, like lavendar blossoms. Or, go savory with olive oil and basil essence. You could also forego the sugar altogether and use magnesium (epsom) salts, instead, for a courser, muscle-relaxing scrub. Use your imagination and enjoy!

How to make it

  1. In a mixing bowl, stir together sugar and grapeseed oil until barely combined (don't dissolve your sugar!).

  2. Stir in your essentials oil (found at your local health food store), one drop at a time, until it smells yummy!  The amount will vary, depending upon the strength of your essential oil.  Don't add too much, or it could get cloying.  For me, the right amount works out to be about 8 drops.

  3. If you like, at the same time, stir in a drop of food coloring (I use yellow, but it will turn a lovely blond color, as shown, on its own).

Fill a small mason jar(s) with your bath salts, and seal with a canning ring and lid (or a circular cut-out of natural cork, as shown).

Decorate a small, bamboo scoop with washi tape.  Tie it -- along with a printable gift tag -- to the jar with a few intertwined strands of matching, colored twine.

And no matter how many jars you make to give away, be sure to save some for yourself. You deserve it! Enjoy!
