Dragon of the Year - Image Collection

It's the Chinese Year of the Dragon! Have your kids make a suitable sidekick from felt and wire.

What you'll need

  • template
  • felt
  • floral or craft wire
  • tacky glue
  • waxed paper
  • heavy book for binding glue
  • 3-D fabric paint (such as Scribbles brand)

How to make it

  1. First, download the free template. Cut the shapes from felt.

  2. Cut and bend lengths of floral or craft wire to fit the center of each leg piece, bending over the sharp ends. Assemble each leg by sandwiching the wire and tacky glue between two leg pieces.

  3. Cut another length of wire to fit the length of the body and bend over the ends. Assemble the body as shown, starting with one body piece, then adding the wire, tacky glue, the legs, and the triangular tip of the tail.

Put a bit more glue on the centers of the leg sections and the tail. Place the second body piece on top.

  4. Put the dragon between two pieces of waxed paper and place it under a heavy book to dry overnight. Decorate your dragon with 3-D fabric paint (such as Scribbles brand).
