Family Photo Tree

Your clan can perform its own photo synthesis -- no sunlight required -- with this sapling-shaped collage made from easily pliable craft wire.

What you'll need

  • 48 ft. of 20-gauge craft wire
  • Wire cutter
  • Rock
  • Flowerpot
  • Decorative stones
  • Family photographs
  • Hole punch

How to make it

  1. Cut 24 two-foot lengths of 20-gauge craft wire. Separate the wires into 2 groups of 12 and lay them crosswise on your work surface.

  2. Family Photo Tree Step 2

Place a rock (it should fit loosely inside the flowerpot you plan to use) atop the crossed wires, then wrap the wires around the rock, twisting them together to create a 3-inch trunk.

  3. Family Photo Tree Step 3

Separate the wires above the twisted portion into 2 or 3 groups, twist each group a few times, then divide each into several smaller branches. Continue to twist and divide until the branches are 1 to 2 wires thick.

  4. Set the tree in the flowerpot and cover the base with decorative stones.

  5. Trim your photos into 2- to 3-inch-long leaf shapes, punch a hole at the top of each one, and hang them on the branches, folding up the ends of the wires if necessary.
