What you'll need

  • 1 party hat
  • embellishments of your choice like buttons, sequins, or plastic rhinestones
  • various lengths of ribbon or lace
  • ribbon (approximately 6 inches in length)
  • glue (craft glue for kids or hot glue for grownups)
  • acrylic craft paint (optional)
  • flowers or brightly-colored tissue paper (optional)
Helpful Tip:

  • Playdate: This project is fun for kids and moms alike, so invite your favorite mom and her kiddo over for a crafternoon.
  • Vintage Flair: I added a few pieces of broken costume jewelry to one of my cones that gave it quite an elegant air!
  • Sweets for the Sweet: You can also fill the cones with little candies for an unexpected sweet treat.

How to make it

  1. step 1

Gather together all of your materials.

  2. Paint party hats with your acrylic paint, if desired. I painted mine with antique white acrylic craft paint. Let paint dry completely before adding embellishments.

  3. Glue your flat embellishments like ribbon and lace, using craft glue or hot glue (for adults ONLY). A lacy or ribbon border around the top of the cone looks really pretty. Set your craft aside and allow glue to dry.

  4. flower cones

Add dimensional embellishments like buttons, rhinestones, or costume jewelry.

  5. Create a ribbon handle by gluing the ends of your 60-inch length of ribbon to the sides of your cone.

  6. Let glue dry.

  7. step 7

Fill with flowers or brightly clored tissue paper.
