Kite Magnet

Unlike a traditional paper valentine, this handy magnet is sure to stick around — inside school lockers and on refrigerator doors — long after February 14th.

What you'll need

  • 5- by 4-inch rectangle of colored card stock
  • Marker
  • 8-inch length of thin satin ribbon
  • 2 1⁄4- by 1⁄2-inch self-stick magnetic strip (buy it in precut strips or cut it from a sheet)
  • 6 heart stickers

How to make it

  1. Cut the card stock into a diamond kite shape. Write a message such as the one shown, or "You Make My Spirits Soar," on the front.

  2. Place the ribbon on the center back of the kite so that it trails down like a tail. Secure the top of the ribbon under the magnetic strip.

  3. Decorate both sides of the tail with heart stickers, placing them back-to-back
