Locker Decorator
Ages 9 to 12

It can be a little intimidating for kids to go back to school, so it may help to give them a little bit of home they can take with them with some cool back to school crafts. Making this Locker Decorator is a quick way to personalize your child's school locker.

What you'll need

  • 10-inch x 14-inch piece of cardboard
  • pink (or color of your choice) 12-inch x 12-inch cardstock
  • stickers (letters and shapes)
  • letter and shape cutouts (optional)
  • clothespins
  • adhesive mounting strips
  • white glue or double sided tape
  • favorite photos
  • scissors
Helpful Tip:

  • The Locker Decorator can also be used to hold important school papers to keep them from getting lost in the bottom of the locker.
  • You can also use this photo holder to decorate the wall or door of a bedroom or a dorm room. It makes it super simple to change out the photos whenever you have new photos to add, just remove the old photos from the clothespins and add in the new ones.

How to make it

  1. step 1

Gather together all of your materials.

  2. Cut a piece of cardboard to about 10 inches wide by about 14 inches long, this will be the base of your card holder. The measurements don't have to be exact, but most lockers are typically about a foot wide, so you'll want to keep the width less than 12 inches. Cutting cardboard can be difficult, so it's a good idea to have an adult do the cutting.

  3. Cut 2 strips from the cardstock 1 inch wide by 12 inches long.

  4. step 4

Cut two more cardstock strips 1 inch wide by 10 inches long.

  5. Place the 10 inch strips of cardstock horizontally on the top and bottom of the cardboard photo holder. Use double sided tape or glue to secure them in place.

  6. step 6

Place the 12 inch strips of cardstock vertically on the sides of the photo holder, along the edges between the strips you've already put on the top and the bottom. Secure them in place with tape or double sided tape. The strips should create a border all the way around the cardboard.

  7. step 7

Add the clothespins, I put 2 near the top of the cardboard, and 2 more about 2/3 of the way down the board. Make sure to leave enough room between the clothespins to display the photos. To secure the clothespins onto the cardboard use the adhesive mounting strips.

  8. step 8

Add some fun stickers, or die cut letters to your photo holder. You can add any stickers you'd like, try using words like "Friends," or "Family." You can also add hearts, flowers, or even stickers of your child's favorite animals.

  9. step 9

Use 2 more adhesive mounting strips on the back of the Locker Decorator to attach it to the inside of the locker door. Don't expose the sticky part of the adhesive strip until you're ready to stick it on your wall or locker.

  10. step 10

Add your favorite photos by hanging them from the clothespins.
