It's all about personal style when it comes to this customizable cap. With removable accessories — braids, horns, flowers , pint-size pals, even a "fauxhawk"— your kids can change their look to match their changing mood.

Start by sewing five snap bases to a store-bought hat (one at the center and the remainder placed 2 inches out, hole-to-hole, in varying directions, as shown at right). Then create the fun add-ons shown at right, using the snap tops.

Stack a 4- by11-inch piece of fleece on a 5- by 11-inch piece. Stitch the pieces together down the middle with embroidery floss, then snip 2-inch -long fringe on both sides.

Sew a snap to the bottom of one end of the larger piece of fleece, another one 2 inches in (hole-to-hole), and a third 2 inches from that one. To make the fauxhawk stand up, fold the fleece in half lengthwise, then sew knots about 1/2 inch in from the fold at 1-inch intervals.
