Nutty Turkey DIY Tutorial

Last Thanksgiving, our family made these during vacation from school. My husband thought they looked a little nutty, but my daughter said it was really fun, asking if we'd make more this year.

So, I guess this is a new tradition in the making for us, and maybe it will be for your family, too!

What you'll need

  • Almonds in shell
  • Walnuts in shell
  • Small googly eyes (optional)
  • Glue gun
  • Brown paper bag or any brown paper (I used patterned scrapbook paper)
  • Red chenille stems/pipe cleaner
  • Brown chenille stems/pipe cleaner
  • Decorative edge scissors (optional)

How to make it

  1. Using glue gun, attach almond on top of walnut.

  2. Cut off a ¼” piece of red pipe cleaner and attach under the almond (under beak).

  3. Cut brown pipe cleaner into two - ½” pieces and attach to each side of walnut (wings).

  4. Cut brown pipe cleaner into 2” piece and fold in half. Glue to bottom of walnut (feet).

  5. Cut paper into a 2 ½” x 12” piece and cut one horizontal side with decorative edge scrapbook scissors.

  6. Fold horizontally in an accordion pleat.

  7. Gather at bottom and attach with glue gun to walnut.

  8. Attach googly eyes (or simply draw on eyes with a black Sharpie).

  9. These cute turkeys make adorable decorations or fun place cards for dinner.
