Whimsical photo bookplates are a fun way to spark a new reader's interest in her growing library. They make a great gift for family members too; just make a bunch and wrap them up with a classic storybook or new favorite.

What you'll need

  • 1 piece of 8 1/2- by 11-inch white card stock
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Paper in various patterns and colors
  • Photographs or digital images
  • Markers
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors

How to make it

  1. Using the pencil and ruler, divide the card stock into 6 sections; ours were 4 1/4 by 3 2/3 inches.

  2. step 2

Have your child use the decorative papers, photos, and markers to create a collage in each section and glue all of the pieces in place.

  3. Personalized Bookplates - Step 3

Write "From the Library of ..." or another plate-worthy saying on the designs and have your child sign her name.

  4. Color-copy the sheet as many times as you'd like, cut the plates apart, and use a glue stick to affix them to the insides of your child's books.
