Personalized Pencil Cup
Ages 5 to 8

When working on craft ideas for Father's Day, a Personalized Pencil Cup immediately came to mind. It's something that can be easily customized to feature your unique family and can be made from items you already have around the house. Best of all, the recipient to think of the gift giver than every time he reaches for a pen or pencil? This is inexpensive and the kids will love it.

What you'll need

  • clean soup or bean can (I rescued one from our recycling bin)
  • a photo of your kids or your family
  • white glue
  • laminating paper (optional)
Helpful Tip:

You can personalize these in a number of different ways, depending upon the occasion and the recipient's tastes. For example, affix a coordinating ribbon around the top and the bottom of the can. Use many different photos for a collage effect. Cut and paste special words that suit the occasion.

How to make it

  1. Clean out the soup can inside and out, and make sure there are no sharp edges along the top opening (adults ONLY).

  2. Remove any paper labels on the can and let it dry completely.

  3. Once your can is totally dry, use the glue to affix your favorite photo around the circumference of the soup can. Depending on your picture and the size of your can, you may need two photos to cover the entire surface. Optional: You might want to apply a sheet of laminating paper, cut to size, on top of the picture to protect its surface.
