Phineas and Ferb Lampshade
Total Time 1 hour Ages 5 to 8

If there's one thing Phineas and Ferb have no shortage of, it's innovative ideas and schemes. One day they're building the best carwash ever and the next they're hosting a lawn gnome beach party for the entire neighborhood. Here's a fun decoupage lamp that aptly spotlights the dynamic brainstorming duo. Younger kids will need some help cutting out the smaller pieces, such as the eyes and arms, but they'll have fun gluing the characters and idea light bulb to the lampshade.

What you'll need

• Lamp with plain lampshade
• Newspaper
• Waxed paper
• Template for Phineas & Ferb Lampshade
• Scissors
• Lightweight colored craft paper
• Fine-tipped black marker
• Glue stick
• Toothpick (for applying glue to small areas)
• Glue sealer (such as Mod Podge)
• Small paintbrush or foam brush

How to make it

1. Print the template and use it to cut out pieces from the specified colors of craft paper.

2. Phineas & Ferb Lampshade

Cover your work surface with newspaper topped with waxed paper. Use the marker to draw ridge lines on the light bulb base. Then glue the light bulb pieces together, as shown.

3. Phineas & Ferb Lampshade

Next, glue the hair pieces onto the respective Phineas and Ferb head shapes.

4. Phineas & Ferb Lampshade

Draw pupils on both sets of eyeballs.

5. Phineas & Ferb Lampshade

Glue the eyeballs in place, overlapping them, as shown. For Phineas, glue the lower portion of the smaller eyeball to the back of the head and then glue the larger one onto the face. For Ferb, glue both eyeballs onto the face just above the nose. Draw grins on both faces.

6. Phineas & Ferb Lampshade

Draw sleeve lines on the shirts. Then glue the arms in place, as shown.

7. Flip the light bulb over and paint the back with glue sealer. Then press the light bulb, glued side down, onto the lampshade. Smooth the surface of the paper with your fingertips so that the paper sticks firmly to the shade and any air bubbles are pressed out.

8. Using the same method, glue Phineas's head and shirt onto the shade to the left of the lightbulb. Then glue the Ferb pieces in place to the right of the bulb.

9. Coat the entire surface of the bulb and characters with a couple of coats of glue sealer, allowing the sealer to dry thoroughly (it doesn't take long) in between. This will seal the design and allow you to periodically dust the shade without tearing or dirtying the paper.
