Pom Pom Winter Bird Craft
Total Time 1 to 2 hours Ages school-age

If you're looking for wintry craft inspiration to do with little ones over the next couple of weeks, here's a cute little pom pom winter bird to keep everyone happy and engaged.

What you'll need

  • White Wool
  • Pom Pom Makers (cardboard circles or store bought)
  • Scissors
  • Grey and Black Felt
  • Fabric Glue, or quick drying craft glue
  • For the scarf: ribbon, felt or french knit

How to make it

  1. Pom Pom Winter Bird Craft

Make two different size pom poms, for the body and head.

  2. Pom Pom Winter Bird Craft

Trim around each pom pom with the scissors to make neat balls, making sure to leave plenty excess on the central thread that binds the pom pom together.

Use this long thread to tie both pom poms together, so that the smaller pom pom becomes the bird's head. Once joined trim off the excess thread.

  3. Pom Pom Winter Bird Craft

Cut a triangular piece of grey felt for the beak and stick to the pom poms with the craft glue.

Cut two small circles from the black felt and stick on for the eyes.

  4. Pom Pom Winter Bird Craft

Cut three-toe pieces of felt for the feet and attach with glue.

  5. Pom Pom Winter Bird Craft

My daughter Molly made a warm winter scarf for the bird with her small French Knitter, but a long piece of felt or ribbon will work just as well.
