Find out what lurks around the next corner with a homemade periscope.
To use the finished periscope, just look into the lower mirror and move the other end of the tube until you've captured an image.
Make a 2-inch square opening in one end of the tube. The simplest method is to line up your paper square with the end of the tube and trace around it. Then, cut along the trace line with a craft knife (adults only). Next, mark another 2-inch square on each side of the opening. Bisect each square by cutting a diagonal slit.
Prepare the other end of the tube using the method explained in step 1, only this time cut the opening from the side opposite the first opening.
Glue each mirror faceup onto the center of one of the cardboard rectangles. Once the glue dries, fit the mounted mirrors into the slits at the ends of the tube, so that they face one another.
Finally, use the colored duct tape to cover the ends of the tubes and to decorate the surface (leave the cut openings unobstructed).
