Star Stacks - Image Collection

Even the youngest kids can help make these twinkling beauties. Cookie cutters are pressed into warm wax, then the cooled shapes are strung on wicks.

Remember, never leave candles burning unattended or near unsupervised children.

What you'll need

  • 2 (9-inch) cake pans
  • aluminum foil
  • 4 cups paraffin wax, chopped
  • pouring container
  • one third of a 3/4-ounce cube of blue wax dye
  • 4 star-shape cookie cutters
  • skewers
  • 2 (3-inch-tall) prewaxed wire wicks with clips

How to make it

  1. Line each pan with foil. Melt 2 cups of the wax following these directions, then pour it into one of the pans.

  2. Melt the remaining wax. While it's melting, chop the dye into small pieces, then stir it into the wax. Pour this wax into the second pan. Let the pans sit until the wax is just warm to the touch, about 20 minutes.

  3. Press the cookie cutters into the wax, all the way to the bottom of the pan (don't remove the stars yet). Use the skewers to poke a hole in the center of each, slightly wider than a wick. Allow the stars to cool completely in the pan, about 30 minutes more.

  4. Remove the stars from the pan. String them onto the wicks as shown. Trim the wicks so that they extend 1/4 inch.
