Toddlers love playing with magnets, so why not double your tot's pleasure by creating a chunky, easy-to-pick-up set personalized just for him. Decorate them with stickers of his favorite things, from book characters to cute critters, and/or letters that spell his name. Try storing them in a metal lunch box (we got ours at orientaltrading.com) -- it makes a perfect carrying case and play station all in one.

What you'll need

  • Decorative stickers
  • Extra-thick craft foam
  • Scissors
  • Self-adhesive printer paper
  • Clear packing tape or Mod-Podge
  • Adhesive magnetic sheets (we used ProMag Adhes-A-Mag)

How to make it

  1. Adhere the stickers to the craft foam and cut them out. We made all of ours into 2-inch squares. (If you don't have letter stickers, you can print our alphabet templates (Part 1 and Part 2) onto self-adhesive printer paper.) For extra durability, wrap the foam pieces with clear packing tape or cover the stickers with a thin layer of Mod-Podge.

  2. Cut adhesive magnetic sheets to fit your foam pieces, and stick a magnet to the back of each.
