Cassie Caraway came up with a healthy way to express her affections. The Osceola, Nebraska, first-grader polled her classmates about their favorite fruits, then wrapped up a collection of vitamin-rich valentines -- apples, oranges, and bananas -- each with a juicy pun attached.
Place a piece of fruit in a cellophane bag and tie it closed with a length of ribbon.
Cut a heart from the card stock and add a message. Or use our template.
Punch a hole in the heart, slip it onto the ribbon, and tie a knot to keep the note in place, if needed.
Suggested messages:
"Orange" you glad it's Valentine's Day?
You're the apple of my eye!
I go bananas over you, valentine!
Note: Banana skins can turn brown and mushy if exposed to extreme temperatures. If you think this could happen before your child gets to exchange the Valentine, we recommend giving a non-perishable love note.
