Take-Home Recipe Album

A great way to add to the holiday festivities -- without adding a lot of extra work to an already busy season -- is to throw a day-after-Thanksgiving Leftover Pie Party. Invite about a dozen families over for an afternoon of revelry and surplus sweets.

Here's a clever, inexpensive way for your guests to have their pie and others' too.

What you'll need

  • 4- by 6-inch photo albums
  • Paper
  • Craft paper or card stock
  • Glue

How to make it

  1. Before the party, buy a 4- by 6-inch photo album for each family who will be attending (we found ours at a craft store for about a dollar apiece). Ask your child to design a cover (ours is made from paper cutouts), then make a photocopy for each album and slide the copy inside.

  2. When you send out invitations, ask your guests to e-mail you the recipe for the dessert they plan to bring. Print out the recipes, one per family, on craft paper or card stock (use two rectangles glued back-to-back for longer recipes).

  3. On the day of the party, place the recipe cards next to the corresponding pies and provide each family with an album to fill as a special keepsake.
