Tweet-hearts

Here's a heartwarming decoration for Valentine's Day: a set of plumed lovebirds to perch on a windowsill or tabletop.

What you'll need

  • Construction paper
  • Glue
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Paper clips or clothespins
  • Feathers

How to make it

  1. Tweet-hearts Step 1

To make each bird, first cut 3 identical hearts from construction paper and fold them in half (ours measured 7-1/2 inches along the fold). Join 2 of the hearts at right angles by gluing half of one to half of the other, then glue the third heart to the pair (see diagram).

  2. Tweet-hearts Step 2

For each foot, shape a pipe cleaner as shown. Then glue the coiled ends in place on each side of a heart lobe.

  3. Tweet-hearts Step 3

Secure the hearts and the pipe cleaners with paper clips or clothespins and allow them to dry.

  4. Glue feathers to the top and bottom of the bird for a flowing tail and tufted forelock and add paper eyes and 2 small matching hearts for a beak.
