Backyard Goalpost

Kids can practice their placekicking -- and increase the challenge as their aim improves -- with this adjustable goalpost made from pool noodles.

What you'll need

  • Two 48-inch (1/2-inch diameter) wooden dowels
  • 3 pool noodles
  • 2 pool noodle connectors
  • Football
Helpful Tip:

No pool noodles left over from the summer swimming season? You can order noodles and connectors online at www.poolcenter.com or www.pooltoy.com.

How to play

  1. For your own goalpost, first mark two spots 5 feet apart for the uprights. Set a dowel 6 inches into the ground at each spot, then slip a pool noodle over each dowel. Fit a pool noodle connector on each end of the third noodle, then slide the connectors onto the upright noodles for a crossbar.

  2. Have kids take turns holding the pigskin and booting it over the goalpost, gradually sliding the crossbar higher as they master each height.
