Shadow Play

Punxsutawney Phil may run back into his hole at the sight of his shadow, but your child shouldn't shy away from his. It can make for an amusing companion -- one that might even entice your child to bundle up and play outdoors on a February day.

Have your child try to:

  • hide from his own shadow
  • shake hands with someone else's shadow without actually touching hands
  • touch someone else's shadow with his own
  • make his shadow do things he can't, such as touch the top of a tree or building
  • fit his shadow inside someone else's
  • turn his shadow into letter shapes (b, f, k, p, t, and y are good ones to try)
