Score at your basketball party with a dramatic, silhouette backdrop!
First, find an image to use. Remember, it doesn't need to be a silhouette originally.
Then, project the image on a wall. Use an opaque projector (check at your local library) for a print image, or use an office projector for images you find online.
Cover a wall with black paper, leaving even spaces between each sheet to create "window panes" -- and to make sure you can use regular-sized construction paper for each panel.
With pencil (easy to see on black paper, while still dark), draw an outline that creates your silhouette. Number the pieces in a way that makes it easy to re-assemble your backdrop later (A1, A2, A3... B1, B2...).
Arrange on your wall for your party, using blue construction paper underneath the black for the sky. I love how this silhouette left the basketball orange for a dramatic accent.

With a sturdy needle, string, and some inexpensive miniature basketballs, you can string together your own welcome wreath -- perfect for your basketball party! Add decorative ribbon, and maybe even an initial for your birthday boy/girl, to make it pretty and personal!
