Brighten up traditional lemonade by adding fresh strawberries -- and steeped ginger and lemongrass -- for a unique and refreshing sparkling beverage.
Peel the ginger by lightly scraping the sides sideway with a knife. Chop up the ginger as fine (stronger flavor) or as coarsely (milder) as you like.
Trim the dry bases of the lemongrass stalks, and again, slice crossways, as fine or coarsely as you like.
Place ginger, lemongrass, salt, and sugar into a saucepan with two cups of water.
On medium-high heat, warm until nearly boiling, stirring occasionally.
Remove the pan from heat, and let it cool and steep for an additional 10 minutes.
Strain the cooled liquid into your pitcher.
Pour fresh lemon juice into pitcher.
Mince strawberries, add to pitcher, and stir well.
Add the sparkling water to the pitcher. Mix lightly (so you don't lose the effervescence).
Serve in glasses, with ice. Garnish with a slice of lemon, if you like, as pictured. Sooo refreshing!
