This easy appetizer of savory bacon and crisp water chestnuts gets a big flavor boost from homemade sweet and sour sauce.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Rinse chestnuts in warm running water and drain. Wrap a piece of cut bacon around the water chestnut and secure with a toothpick.
Place the water chestnuts on a rack in a shallow pan. Bake for 30 minutes, turning them over once). Makes 24 appetizers.
In a saucepan combine tomato sauce, vinegar, orange juice, soy sauce and vegetable stock. Let simmer for 5 minutes. Stir occasionally. Let chill and serve with bacon wrapped water chestnuts.
