Build-A-Bear Cake

This Great Cake Contest entry was submitted by WLT72 from Raleigh, North Carolina: My daughter's 5th Bearthday was at Build-A-Bear, I created this cake for her party using a stand up Winnie the Pooh cake pan. It was a big hit!

What you'll need

  • Cake prepared according to cake pan instructions.
  • Prepared 8" round cake for base.
  • Wilton Icing - Royal & Chocolate
  • Icing Colors
  • balloon, party hat, party blower, drinking straw

How to make it

  1. Ice the base cake with yellow & trim with blue. Place bear cake on top (I left the cone in for support) leaving room in front for candles.

  2. Decorate bear as per photo. Convert Pooh's honey pot into a birthday present. Ice smooth colors first, then use grass tip with chocolate icing for fur. I added an ear bow & eye lashes because my daughter wanted it to be a girl bear. It's modeled after her favorite Build-A-Bear friend Minnie Bear. I used the Build-A-Bear store colors - Red, Blue & Yellow. Use Black to outline paws, eyes, and create nose & mouth lines.

  3. For the bear to hold a balloon - Insert a drinking straw to the inside of the arm holding the present, with the ribbon of a balloon carefully threaded through the straw. Place a party hat on it's head (leave one ear showing) and a party blower in the bears mouth. Remove the party blower before lighting the candles."
