This Great Cake Contest entry was submitted by lianalianaliana from Thousand Oaks, California: A pretty spring cake with white chocolate fences, rice paper butterflies and fondant flowers. You can even eat the butterflies!
Roll out yellow fondant into a long rope. Shape into an 8. Roll out pink fondant into a long rope. Place on top of yellow fondant to shape the 8. Push two cookie sticks or skewers into the bottom of the 8 and let dry 4 days.
Draw or trace butterflies using food color pens onto rice paper. Let dry and turn rice paper over and color other side. Cut out butterflies and lightly brush with clear piping gel. Using #5 tip, pipe the body of the butterfly and place black stamens for antennae. Let dry. Draw a pattern of a fence on a piece of paper. Place a piece of parchment on top of the pattern. Melt chocolate and put into a decorating bag or tube. Fill in the fence pattern.
Fill and frost both cakes in yellow buttercream. Place the number 8 into the cake using the cookie sticks in the 8. Place cookie name letters onto cake. Using cookie cutters or fondant flower cutters, cut out flowers in various shapes. Cut out leaves out of green fondant for the bottom of the cake. Using leaf tip #352, pipe leaves and place flowers on cake. Place fence around bottom of cake. Place butterflies on cake using black icing.
