Care Bear Heart Cake

This Great Cake Contest entry was submitted by tcbuquet from houma, Louisiana: 2 layer heart cake with care bears as a topper and at all 3 points of the heart decorated with hearts and flowers.

What you'll need

  • 1 14 inch heart shaped pan
  • 1 12 inch heart shaped pan
  • 2 boxes of chocolate cake mix
  • buttercream icing
  • marshmallow fondant
  • heart shaped cookie cutters in various sizes
  • Flower shaped cookie cutters in various sizes
  • Fondant flower punch
  • Fondant ribbon cutter
  • icing colors

How to make it

  1. Bake cakes in heart pans according to package instructions. Let cool completely. While cake is baking and cooling begin making the Care bears using fondant. Each bear colored with different colors and place the different care bear symbols on each tummy. The details in the feet, nose, and ears make them stand out.

  2. Once cake is cool cover the cake board in green fondant, place the 14 inch cake on the board first and cover with a thin layer of buttercream icing. Color the some of the fondant yellow and cover the 14 inch with it. Next color some fondant pink, coat the 12 inch with a thin layer of icing and cover the cake with it the pink fondant. Place the 12 inch on top of the 14 inch centering the cake.

  3. Color some fondant orange and cut with the ribbon cutter to surround the bottom of the yellow cake. Color some fondant purple and cut with the ribbon cutter to surround the bottom of the pink cake. Place the bears around the cake. Fill in with left over colored fondant cut out with heart shapes and Flowers using the cookie cutters. Using the fondant flower punch cut out flowers and leaves and place them between the large heart and flower shapes"
