Crocodile Cake

For my son's 7th birthday party he wanted a "Crocodile Hunter" adventure-type birthday party. He asked me for a crocodile cake and this is what I came up with. - Don O., Memphis, TN

What you'll need

  • 4 cake mixes
  • 4 cups vanilla frosting
  • Wilton's icing in black, juniper green, and leaf green
  • 2 shooter marbles

How to make it

  1. Step 1: Make two 12" x 18" sheet cakes. Let cool completely.

  2. Place a thin layer of frosting on the top one and then place the second cake on top of that.

  3. Step 3

Make two cuts to form the head.

  4. Step 4

From the excess, you will need 4 pieces. Two strips from part of the outside edge about 3/4" wide and 4" long. The other two pieces are small wedges that you will use to prop open the mouth.

  5. Take two cups of icing. Reserve two tablespoons of the vanilla for the teeth. Take the rest and mix in two parts juniper green and one part leaf green until desired color is achieved. Use for the bottom jaw and the top part of the eyes.

  6. Take the two remaining cups of icing and mix in juniper green with just a touch of the black until you have reached the desired color. This will be used for the remainder of the cake.

  7. Place the shooter marbles where you want the eyes. Mine were about 4" from the outside and about 2 1/2" from the back. Take the 4" strips and place them around the marbles, slightly covering the tops. Use the icing to hold down the ends and then finish icing the rest.

  8. Place a small mound of icing for the nose. Let harden, then go back and form the nostrils.

  9. Take the icing spreader and gently tap and pull to texture skin.

  10. Finally, add the teeth using a medium-sized round tip.
