Dinosaur Cake

A friendly dinosaur makes a great cake for your child's birthday.

What you'll need

  • One 12" round cake
  • One purchased pound cake
  • Wilton rolled fondant
  • Buttercream icing
  • Sugar cones

How to make it

  1. The round cake was cut in half, filled, and placed on a board on the flat side, forming the body.

  2. The head was carved from the pound cake. Cut the pound cake in half. Use one half for the head, trimming it to shape a snout on one end.

  3. The head and body were each covered in green-tinted fondant. Fondant was also used to shape the legs and the scales behind the head.

  4. The legs were attached to the body immediately. The scales were shaped like a scallop shell and allowed to dry overnight. Then the scales were adhered to the body and the head to the scales using icing.

  5. Details such as eyes, smile, grass, were added with icing.

  6. Spikes are ice cream cones cut to varying sizes.
