What you'll need

  • 1 box of cake mix of your choice, 1 canister of white frosting, 1 cup cocoa puff cereal (or anything that looks like kibble),6 silver cupcake liners, food coloring (of your choice for the dog bowl), black writing gel, aluminum foil, cake board, 5 inch rou

How to make it

  1. Mix cake batter according to package, divide among 5 inch round cake pan and cupcake tin lined with silver cupcake liners (you will have extra cupcakes) and bake. Let cool completely. Meanwhile cover a 10 inch round cake board with aluminum foil.

  2. Tint 1 cup of white frosting with color of your choice to decorate the dog bowl. The remaining white frosting will be used to frost the dog bone and extra cupcakes. Take the 5 inch cooled cake and cut a circle out of the center (not completely through) and scoop out.

  3. To decorate and assemble, position cake and six cupcakes on the round cake board. To make the dog bone, line two cupcakes side by side and two cupcakes at the end to form a T and repeat on the other side. Frost the tops of the cupcake to look like one whole piece (bone). Frost 5 inch cake, write a name on the front edge with black writing gel. Fill 'bowl' with puffed cereal."
