Bake the cake in two round pans. Allow to cool. Add 1 coat of thick icing between the two cakes. *Note: you may also want to trim the cake to take off any hard layers.
Apply 1 thin coat of icing on the cake to set it. This is just to seal in the cake and the crumbs.
Cover the cake again, this time make sure you don't get crumbs in this layer.
Using a toothpick draw the picture of Dora on the top of the cake. The following several steps involve filling the pastry bags with different color icing, but all use the star tip.
Fill a pastry bag with a star tip with chocolate icing. Use this to fill in the hair, center of eyes, and mouth.
Use the skin tone color in the Dora Explorer kit with vanilla whipped icing and mixed with a little bit of chocolate whipped icing. (this will make is a bit darker). Use this to color her face.
Use the pink rose color in the Dora Explorer kit with vanilla whipped icing. Use this to fill in the tongue and shirt. . Use the red gel icing to fill in the remainder of the mouth. Use the left over icing and mix with blue gel coloring to make the purple coloring. Use this to fill in the straps for her backpack that are showing the shirt.
Use the blue gel color in the general gel color kit with the vanilla whipped icing. Use this to fill in the background.
Fill a bag with the vanilla icing. Fill in the sides of the eyes and then do the shell border on the top and bottom edges of the cake.
Add the Happy Birthday ready made sugar icing decoration on the cake.
