Edible Eyeballs

Halloween is really special in my house. Each year, the kids and I work together to make fun Halloween crafts, devise their costumes, and we head to a fabulous trick or treating event in our town. But, my favorite part? Making delicious Halloween treats. This year, I want to be creepier, freakier, and even more fun. One of the delicious treats we'll be eating around Halloween are Edible Eyeballs. These spooky, creepy treats look like bloodshot eyes on a platter. How fun is that?

What you'll need

  • 1 package mini powdered donuts or donut holes
  • Red Icing (see recipe here)
  • 20 gummy Lifesavers (any colors/flavors)
  • 20 Raisinets or Junior Mints
Helpful Tip:

Chocolate chips can be used in place of the Raisinets or Junior Mints.

How to make it

  1. Lay out the powdered donuts on a clean work surface (like a cutting board). You may want to line it with waxed paper for easy cleanup.

  2. Prepare the Red Icing.

  3. Spoon the Red Icing into a small resealable bag. Seal the bag, getting out as much air as you can. Finally, snip the corner of the bag (just a little bit), making an opening to squeeze the icing out.

  4. Pipe Red Icing swiggles onto the donut, and ice a small circle in the center of the donut.

  5. Press 1 gummy Lifesaver onto each donut in the center on the piped circle; this is the iris of the eye.

  6. Pipe a small circle or dot of Red Icing onto the center of the gummy Lifesaver. Press a Raisinet or Junior Mint into the red icing (this is the cornea).

  7. Allow icing to dry slightly before serving.
