Harry Potter Scene Game Cake

This Great Cake Contest entry was submitted by StaceyannJ from Aurora, Colorado: An edible Game Board Cake

What you'll need

  • Cake Mix
  • Frosting (White, Red, Yellow)
  • Fondant (to cut out squares for game board and mold game pieces)
  • Edible Ink Markers (found in the cake decorating section of a craft store)

How to make it

  1. Bake three circle cakes: 2 large and 1 smaller circle. Let cool. Cut the domes off the tops of the cakes, making sure each circle is the same height. Cover a board with foil and place the circle cakes (cut side face down) on the board with the smaller circle in between the larger circles. The cakes should be touching each other.

  2. Frost the edges of the circles in white. Frost the top of the circles in red. Roll out yellow fondant and cut into squares (optional, cut yellow fruit roll-ups into squares to place on top of the "game board") Use edible ink markers to draw pictures on the squares. Mold grey colored fondant into game pieces (the sorting hat, the snitch, Hedwig), the dice, etc. (OR if you have the game, just use your game pieces as decorations on the cake.

  3. Using a decorator bag with appropriate colored frosting, add other game board decorations (the logo "Harry Potter, Scene It?", Circles, Large arrow, The Snitch, and any other messages for the cake) Using your decorator bag, put a shell border on the top of the game board and a zig border at the base of the cake. Enjoy!
