laptop computer Cake

This Great Cake Contest entry was submitted by dianeclark67 from Orchard Park, New York: My son had a technology-themed birthday party, so I made him a laptop computer cake.

What you'll need

  • two 13x9" cakes (I had one chocolate and one yellow)
  • old, clean computer keyboard
  • extra keyboard letters
  • parchment paper
  • chocolate frosting
  • white frosting
  • food coloring

How to make it

  1. Set the two cakes side-by-side. Frost one with chocolate frosting, frost the other with chocolate on the edges, but white inside the "screen".

  2. Pop the letters off the keyboard. Add your message. Mine says "Happy 8th Birthday Ryan Clark". Set the keyboard on parchment paper so it does not directly touch the cake.

  3. Pipe a video game scene on the screen with white frosting tinted with food coloring.
