Little Lilly Mermaid Cake

This Great Cake Contest entry was submitted by bouncingoffthewallsevansville from evansville, Indiana: Lilly Bea , my just now 4 year old, was obsessed with mermaids and princess party decor, this is the mermaid birthday cake I made for her party.

What you'll need

  • Honestly, I used 4 box cakes for this and add vanilla and butter flavoring in place of 2 teaspoons of water in each mix, I also only use egg whites and add one extra for a little more fluff in the cake texture- the icing was all Wilton recipe for butter c

How to make it

  1. made the two cakes, one in a 13 inch round, one in the Wilton doll cake mold, each requires 2 mixes to make a nice large cake.

  2. cool completely, I can not stress this part enough!!

  3. make the butter cream icing while you wait for the cake to cool. start icing on large round cake first, then place doll dress on top,ice the dress with a base coat of white. from the color starts. I used a moss green for her tail and mixed blue(royal) and white in a bag to give the water its foamy look. The top of the doll is star tipped on and then just a basic border, I think it was called rope around the edge.....it was great!!"
