This Great Cake Contest entry was submitted by kramer451 from Elkton, Maryland: Beautiful robin egg blue 2 tiered cake topped w/ cascading silk flowers, bird's nest, and mushroom birds. Accented w/ pastel speckled chocolate eggs.

What you'll need

  • Favorite butter cake recipe for 2 6" round and 2 8" round cakes.
  • Lemon curd filling or other of choice.
  • Buttercream icing.
  • Robin egg blue food coloring.
  • Bag chocolate coated eggs, speckled jelly beans, or eggs handcrafted from fondant.
  • 3 mushroom birds
  • 1 craft bird's nest.
  • spray of silk flowers.
  • #352 leaf tip.

How to make it

  1. Bake 2 6" round and 2 8" round butter cakes. Cool. Fill layers with lemon curd or filling of choice. Stack 6" cake onto of 8" cake. Crumb coat with buttercream. Ice with robins egg blue icing. Using leaf tip # 352 and white icing, trim top and bottom of 8" cake.

  2. Place silk flowers on top of 6" cake. Nestle nest into the flowers and add a mushroom bird into the nest. Add a few speckled eggs to the nest. Using some longer steams of silk flowers, poke them into the 6" cake next to the nest and gently bend them over the nest. Place another mushroom bird on the silks.

  3. Cluster the eggs in groupings around the top of the 8" cake. Nestle a mushroom bird into one of the egg clusters in the front of the cake.
