Pretty Tea Party Cake

This Great Cake Contest entry was submitted by spastula from Ann Arbor, Michigan: A pretty teapot and teacups for a fancy party!

What you'll need

  • 2 boxes any cake mix
  • 2 tubs white store-bought frosting
  • Handle from a new sand pail
  • 1 sugar ice-cream cone
  • 3-5 pipe cleaners
  • Serving Tray for "serving tea"

How to make it

  1. Mix cake batter according to directions and put in the following pans to bake: 1-6 in. oven-proof bowl 1 3 in. oven-proof bowl 8 cupcakes (no papers)

  2. When cool, cut tops of bowl pieces flat. On the serving tray, invert smaller bowl piece on larger piece with frosting for teapot. Frost. For spout, cut point off the ice cream cone, frost, and attach to teapot. Reserve 1/2 cup white frosting for teacup tops. Tint second tub of frosting in 3 coordinating colors. Add frosting decorations (flowers, stripes, etc.)

  3. For teacups, frost sides of each cupcake with a coordinating color, and the top with white frosting. Cut pipecleaners in thirds and shape into handles. Attach to teacups. Arrange teacups around teapot. Time for tea!
