Princess Castle Cake

This Great Cake Contest entry was submitted by sspjames from Overland Park, Kansas: Made for my princess' first birthday

What you'll need

  • 1 cake mix
  • Wilton buttercreme icing tinted pink and light green
  • 1 package Wilton vanilla candy melts
  • Wilton castle pan
  • 9x13 cake pan
  • Heart sprinkles
  • Toothpicks and pink paper
  • Dowel rods

How to make it

  1. Bake cake in 9x13 pan according to box directions. Once cooled, frost with pink icing. Pipe birthday message in green. Pipe swirl borders. Add sprinkles around edges.

  2. Melt 3/4 of the vanilla candy wafers in a glass bowl according to package directions. Pour into castle pan taking care not to pour in the space between towers. Remove from pan once hardened. Melt remaining wafers. Use this to adhere 3 dowel rods onto the back. Leave only enough dowel rod length at bottom to insert into the cake so that the castle sits flush with the cake. Also adhere toothpicks with melted candy for flags.

  3. Once rods harden, turn castle over, frost tower tops, and decorate with swirl flowers, and leaves according to Wilton instructions. Carefully hold castle and insert into cake. Attach paper flags to toothpicks.
