Spiderific Brain Cake

This Great Cake Contest entry was submitted by veronica970206 from Valparaiso, Indiana: This cake was made for my friend's husband's birthday which happens to be in October, so I figured why not do something creepy and fun?

What you'll need

  • 2 boxes of cake mix plus ingredients, 2 containers of white frosting, ivory gel coloring, black spider rings, 8 inch round cake pan, small ball cake pan, piping bag and tip number 12 and black fondant or black pull apart licorice

How to make it

  1. Prepare the first cake mix according to the box. Spray your 8 inch pan with cooking spray and pour in your batter, bake on 350 for 30-45 minutes or until done. Let the cake cool and prepare the other box of cake mix, spray your ball pan and pour the batter into the pan and bake on 350 for 30-45 minutes or until done. When it is done, let it cool on a cooling rack. While the cake is cooling color your frosting to resemble "brain" like color.

  2. Frost the 8 inch cake and once the ball cake is cool, place that on top, using a piping bag and tip number 12, start from the middle of the ball cake and pipe curvy lines to give it that "brain" look.

  3. On the sides of the 8 inch cake using either black fondant or black pull apart licorice spell out Happy Birthday, Happy Halloween or whatever, and add the spiders in random places or all over.
