This Great Cake Contest entry was submitted by kristenblake14 from North Andover, Massachusetts: I made this for my son's 5th pirate theme birthday party.
What you'll need
- I used box cake mixes, made buttercream frosting (butter, butter flavored Crisco, milk and confec sugar) and stuffed with chocolate money, candy necklaces and lollipop rings. I used pure cane sugar as the 'sand' around the cake.
How to make it
Followed directions on box cake mixes (used 14 cups of batter) and baked in 1/2 sheet cake pan. Let cool.
Cut 4" section from center of cake and then cut crosswise to create triangle to prop up cake (discarded other 1/2 of triangle)
Made frosting and tinted with food coloring. Frosted bottom half of treasure chest. Put 2 Tbsps frosting on bottom of triangle pc and secured to bottom of cake. Froze the last section of cake then placed on top of triangle, then frosted. Stuffed with chocolate money, candy necklaces and lollipop rings. Sprinkled pure cane sugar around base of cake."
