This Great Cake Contest entry was submitted by caked2007 from Green Bay, Wisconsin: I made this cake to replicate the grooms own game system (see pic above controller). Near the end of the night, someone stole the controller!
Bake and stack two 1/4 sheet cakes with icing between layers and stack two 6" round cakes with icing between layers. Sculpt away excess cake with a knife to shape the cakes to resemble controller and the Xbox game system shapes. Cover with a layer of buttercream icing. Roll and apply white fondant to cover the controller, and the back, top & front of cake with white.
Cut the white detailed pieces for the front of the Xbox & set aside, covering them with plastic wrap to prevent it from drying out. Make 3 little balls and apply to the controller w/ dab of water. Color remaining fondant a grey color for the sides of Xbox, & controller knobs and controller. Apply sides to the Xbox & the piece on the controller. Shape & apply the grey knobs to the controller w/ dab of water. Add M&Ms on controller w/dab of icing.
For an Xbox with a design (like this one) color it first before applying the details. Make a stencil from parchment and cover the Xbox with it. Use a little clear piping gel to adhere the parchment to the fondant where needed; just enough to use color spray. Peel off parchment stencil. Allow a few minutes for color to dray. Use the reverse side of stencil to apply another color.
Color a little of the grey leftover fondant a black color for the piece on front of the Xbox. Adhere the white details to the front of the Xbox with a little water & use green piping gel to accent the power button and on the controller. Finishing details: use a toothpick to the make holes on top of the Xbox in the white areas."
